Maple Acer palmatum

FOLIAGE: Small bright green palmate leaves, changing in Autumn to yellows, oranges and reds. Maples produce more brilliant colors in a cooler climate, especially when frosts occur.

TEMPERATURE: Japanese maple grows best in a temperate climate with a preferred temperature range of 0 to 27 ℃. It is native to Japan where the temperature ranges from -5 to 27 ℃. During the hot summer months, it is recommended to provide shade and ample water to help the plant adjust to the high temperatures.

High Temperature: During summer, Japanese maple should be kept below 27°C. When the temperature exceeds 30°C, the leaves of the plant may become lighter in color, the tips may become dry and withered, and the plant becomes more susceptible to sunburn.

Solutions:Trim away the sunburned and dried-up parts. Move the plant to a location that provides shade from the midday and afternoon sun, or use a shade cloth to create shade. Water the plant in the morning and evening to keep the soil moist.

Description

  1. Acer palmatum, commonly known as Japanese maple, palmate maple is a species of woody plant native to Japan, Korea, China, eastern Mongolia, southeast Russia.

Japanese Maple do really well in sunny and airy location, but when temperatures rise to 27 degree Celsius or above, it should be placed somewhere with indirect sunlight to prevent damaging the leaves. The Japanese Maple is frost hardy, but when temperatures drop below -10 C, it should be protected.
Acer Palmatum has shallow root system with many fibrous roots in topsoil layer. On very sunny sites root area should be mulched as it prefers cool moisture.
Sun/partial shade, on very sandy soils light shade is preferable, sheltered position.
Best on moist, free-draining, light, sandy loams, slightly acid. Acer palmatum is much less demanding and more tolerant than commonly believed and will thrive on all kinds of soils. Acid to neutral, slightly alkaline. A. palmatum fails on heavy, compacted, and wet soils resulting in frost damage and fungi infections.Soil mix contain approx 20% sand, 30% fresh leaf compost and bark mulch, 40% matured leaf compost and bark mulch, 10% perlite,
