About This Plant
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Gymnocalycium Baldianum Gymnocalycium (from Greek, meaning “naked calyx”) is a genus of barrel or globe-shaped cacti native to South America — primarily Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay and southern Brazil. What makes them uniquely appealing to collectors is their tolerance for lower-light conditions: unlike most cacti they thrive in bright indirect light, making them excellent indoor plants for Indian homes. The ribbed, often spineless bodies come in shades of green, grey-green and brownish, and many produce stunning large funnel-shaped flowers in white, pink, red or yellow that can last for several days. Some forms, like the famous Moon Cactus, are brightly coloured mutant grafted varieties. Gymnocalyciums grow slowly but are very long-lived and undemanding.
