Growing and Caring Sansevieria Plants

How to care Sansevieria Plants

1. Provide bright, indirect light – Sansevieria plants prefer bright, indirect sunlight. If possible, place the plant near a south- or east-facing window.

2. Maintain Temperature – In its native growth environment, snake plant thrives in temperatures ranging from 20 to 41 ℃. It prefers warm temperatures between 21 to 32 ℃ but can tolerate low temperatures down to 10 ℃ in short periods. For optimal growth, maintain a temperature range of 18 to 27 ℃. During winter months, reduce watering and keep the plant in a cooler environment above  15 ℃.

3. Water sparingly – Sansevierias are drought-tolerant and should only be watered when the soil is dry to the touch. Overwatering can lead to root rot.

4. Provide adequate drainage – To prevent root rot, make sure the pot has adequate drainage holes.

5. Use a potting mix – Use a well-draining potting mix, such as a cactus mix, for your Sansevieria.

6. Fertilize lightly – Sansevierias do not need to be fertilized very often; once every few months is sufficient. Use a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer at half strength.

7. Prune as needed – Prune the plant as needed to keep it healthy and attractive. Cut back yellowed or damaged leaves.

8. Watch for pests – Sansevierias may be affected by mealy bugs, spider mites, and other pests. Treat with an insecticidal soap if necessary.
