Acer palmatum, commonly known as Japanese maple, palmate maple is a species of woody plant native to Japan, Korea, China, eastern Mongolia, southeast Russia.
Japanese maple grows best in a temperate climate with a preferred temperature range of -5 to 27 ℃elsius. It is native to Japan where the temperature ranges from -5 to 27 ℃elsius. During the hot summer months, it is recommended to provide shade and ample water to help the plant adjust to the high temperatures. In colder conditions, it is best to protect the roots with mulch and provide wind barriers to prevent cold damage.Japanese maple has strong cold resistance, so special frost protection measures are usually not necessary during the winter. However, if the winter temperatures are expected to drop below -20°Celsius, it is still important to provide cold protection. This can be achieved by wrapping the trunk and branches with materials such as non-woven fabric or cloth. Before the first freeze in autumn, it is recommended to water the plant abundantly, ensuring the soil remains moist and enters a frozen state. This helps prevent drought and water scarcity for the plant during the winter and early spring.
Japanese Maple do really well in sunny and airy location, but when temperatures rise to 27 degree Celsius or above, it should be placed somewhere with indirect sunlight to prevent damaging the leaves. The Japanese Maple is frost hardy, but when temperatures drop below -10 Celsius, it should be protected.
Acer Palmatum has shallow root system with many fibrous roots in topsoil layer. On very sunny sites root area should be mulched as it prefers cool moisture.
Sun/partial shade, on very sandy soils light shade is preferable, sheltered position.
Best on moist, free-draining, light, sandy loams, slightly acid. Acer palmatum is much less demanding and more tolerant than commonly believed and will thrive on all kinds of soils. Acid to neutral, slightly alkaline. A. palmatum fails on heavy, compacted, and wet soils resulting in frost damage and fungi infections.Soil mix contain approx 20% sand, 30% fresh leaf compost and bark mulch, 40% matured leaf compost and bark mulch, 10% perlite,

Had ordered a Maple Acer Plamatum but decided to change it to a Japanese Black Pine instead after consulting with the supplier through WhatsApp. They made their concern known about the Maple not being suitable for Delhi and I requested for the change. They were kind enough to oblige and sent me an excellent and healthy Japanese Black Pine. The cost was the same so there were no hassles. They kept me updated through the delivery process and we’re cool enough to reply to me everytime I contacted them. Have already requested my family to order a couple of more plants from Plantshub for my home.
Initially the leaves fell off but now the leaves have sprouted again.
Always wanted to have this plant and thanks to you.
