About This Plant
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Echinocactus Grusonii Ferocactus (“fierce cactus”) is a genus of large barrel cacti from Mexico and the south-western United States, immediately recognisable by their robust cylindrical body, prominent ribs and fearsome hooked or straight spines — often in vivid red, orange, yellow or white. The name perfectly captures their formidable, spiny appearance. In their native habitat they live in extremely dry, rocky desert terrain, surviving on minimal rainfall and intense sun. They grow slowly but can eventually become magnificent garden specimens, developing into impressive barrels up to 1.5 metres tall over many decades. Young plants are excellent in containers; mature plants are outstanding garden focal points in dry, sunny Indian gardens.
