About This Plant
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Tephrocactus articulatus v. papyracanthus Mammillaria is one of the largest and most diverse genera in the cactus family, comprising over 200 species of compact, globe-shaped cacti native to Mexico and Central America. Celebrated for their distinctive warty tubercles, woolly areoles, intricate spine patterns and spectacular rings of small but vivid flowers, Mammillarias are among the most widely cultivated cacti in the world. Each spring and summer, a crown of colourful blooms encircles the plant in a ring that is quite unlike anything else in the plant kingdom. After the flowers fade, eye-catching red seed pods often appear, adding months of ornamental interest. They thrive on a sunny windowsill, on a dry terrace, or as part of a desert-themed container garden — and are equally at home in India’s driest zones and semi-arid interiors.

📅 Seasonal Availability & Behaviour
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

🌸 Spring (Feb – Apr):
Active growth resumes. Rings of small flowers appear around the crown — fertilize lightly in March.

☀️ Summer (May – Jun):
Peak growth period. Water every 10–14 days; ensure good air circulation. Afternoon shade helps above 42°C.

🌧️ Monsoon (Jul – Sep):
Reduce watering sharply. Shelter from prolonged rain — waterlogged soil causes crown and root rot. Water only when completely dry.

🍂 Autumn (Oct – Nov):
Growth slows. Reduce watering to every 3 weeks.

❄️ Winter (Dec – Jan):
Near-dormancy. Water once a month or stop entirely below 10°C. Keep dry and well-ventilated.

🛒 Best Time to Buy & Plant: Year-round; spring–summer for fastest establishment.

Frequently Asked Questions
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Q: How often should I water?
A: In summer, water every 10–14 days letting the soil dry completely between waterings. In winter, once a month or even less is sufficient.

Q: Can this grow indoors?
A: Yes! Place it on a south or west-facing windowsill with at least 5 hours of direct sun. A grow light helps if natural light is insufficient.

Q: Will it flower?
A: Yes — Mammillarias are among the most free-flowering cacti. Rings of vivid flowers appear around the crown in spring and summer.

Q: What pot is best?
A: Use a terracotta pot with a drainage hole. A 6–8 inch pot suits most Mammillaria sizes. Terracotta helps prevent overwatering.

Q: Is it safe for pets?
A: The spines can injure paws and skin — keep away from pets. Not significantly toxic but physically hazardous.

Q: Do you provide a care guide?
A: Yes! Every order includes a free detailed care guide written for this specific plant.
