About This Plant
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Bromeliad Vriesea ‘Carinata’ — often called the Lobster Claw or Painted Feather — is a stunning tropical bromeliad native to the rainforests of Brazil. It is instantly recognised by its flat, sword-shaped flower spike that flames in shades of red, orange and yellow, lasting for several months on a single plant. In India, it has become a favourite statement plant for living rooms, hotel lobbies and office receptions because it looks dramatic, stays compact, and asks for almost nothing in return.

🌿 Care Instructions
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
☀️ Sunlight: Bright, indirect light. A little soft morning sun is fine; avoid harsh afternoon sun.
💧 Watering: Keep the central “cup” of the rosette filled with clean water. Refresh the cup every 7–10 days. Water the soil lightly only when the top feels dry.
🪴 Soil: Loose, airy mix — orchid bark + coco peat + perlite. Bromeliads hate soggy soil.
🌡️ Temperature: 18–32°C (avoid below 12°C and dry air below 15°C)
🧪 Fertilizer: Diluted liquid fertilizer (NPK 20-20-20 at quarter strength) sprayed on leaves once a month in spring and monsoon. Never fertilize the cup at full strength.
✂️ Pruning: When the main bloom finally fades, cut the spent flower stalk at the base. The mother plant will produce baby “pups” you can separate and grow.

📅 Seasonal Availability & Behaviour
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
🌸 Spring (Feb – Apr):
Active growth resumes. New leaves appear and the colour of the flower spike intensifies. Begin monthly feeding.
☀️ Summer (May – Jun):
Move out of harsh direct sun. In hot Indian cities, mist the leaves twice a week and keep the cup topped up; empty and refresh every 5–7 days to prevent stagnation.
🌧️ Monsoon (Jul – Sep):
Loves the high humidity and grows its best. Make sure the pot drains freely; avoid leaving it in waterlogged saucers.
🍂 Autumn (Oct – Nov):
The flame-coloured spike continues to glow. Pups (baby plants) often appear at the base now.
❄️ Winter (Dec – Jan):
Growth slows. Reduce watering, stop fertilizing, and move indoors away from cold balconies in North India.
🛒 Best Time to Buy & Plant:
February to October are the best months. Spring purchases give the longest enjoyment of the bloom.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Q: Will the plant survive shipping?
A: Yes! We use special packaging designed for live plants. All plants are packed fresh from our nursery and delivered within 3–7 business days across India.
Q: Is this plant safe for pets?
A: Yes — bromeliads (including Vriesea ‘Carinata’) are non-toxic to cats and dogs, making this one of the safest exotic indoor plants for pet households.
Q: How big will this plant grow?
A: It is naturally compact. Expect a final size of 35–45 cm tall and 30–45 cm wide, including the flower spike.
Q: Can I grow this in Delhi or Bangalore?
A: Yes. Bangalore, Pune and Mumbai are perfect year-round. In Delhi or Jaipur, keep it indoors near a bright window and mist regularly to maintain humidity.
Q: What if my plant arrives damaged?
A: We offer a 100% replacement guarantee. Simply email support@plantshub.in with a photo within 24 hours of delivery.
Q: Do you provide a care guide?
A: Yes! Every order comes with a free, detailed care guide written specifically for this bromeliad.
Q: Is this good for beginners?
A: Absolutely — bromeliads are among the easiest exotic plants. Just keep the central cup filled with water and you are 90% of the way there.
Q: Can I keep this indoors?
A: Yes, it actually prefers indoor conditions. Place it in a well-lit spot away from direct afternoon sun.
Q: When is the best time to plant this?
A: February to October. Spring (Feb–Apr) is ideal so you can enjoy the long-lasting bloom right through the warm months.
Q: How fast does this plant grow?
A: Slowly. The mother plant flowers once and then gradually produces “pups” (baby plants) at its base, which mature over 12–18 months.
Q: What size pot do I need?
A: It arrives in a 4-inch nursery pot. A 5–6 inch pot is plenty even for a fully grown plant — bromeliads have small, shallow root systems.
Q: Does this plant flower?
A: Yes — that is its biggest attraction. The flat, sword-shaped flower spike in flaming red, orange and yellow can stay colourful for 3–6 months.
