Alphonso is the mango India is known for: small, deep-golden fruit with dense, fibre-free flesh and a perfume that carries across a room. This is a grafted plant, so it comes true to variety and fruits years earlier than a seedling would, while staying compact enough for a large container on a terrace.
Care
- Light: Full sun, at least 6 hours a day.
- Water: Water deeply, then let the top few inches of soil dry out. Reduce through the monsoon.
- Soil: Free-draining loam enriched with well-rotted compost.
- Feeding: Once before flowering and again after fruit set.
- Temperature tolerance: Minimum 4°C, maximum 48°C.
